Michal Buczkowski

Michał Buczkowski is a laureate of prestigious scholarships from the Belgian Government and the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. 

He lives in the Netherlands and he cooperates as a concert violinist with the Abiry Management, based in London, UK. This talented violinist has performed as a soloist in many European countries and on stages in Australia, Kenya, and South Africa. 

He first studied violin at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Poland, under the tutelage of Professor Mirosława Pawlak, graduating in 2005. He then continued his musical education at the Conservatorium Maastricht, The Netherlands, under Professor Robert Szreder. In 2007, as a scholar of the Socrates-Erasmus program, he studied in the masterclass of Professor Kati Sebestyen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Belgium. In 2011, Michał graduated with honours from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, Belgium, in the masterclass of Professor Zygmunt Marek Kowalski.

Michał has performed at the famous Queen Elizabeth Hall in Brussels. He was invited to perform as a soloist with Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Free State Symphony Orchestra in South Africa. In Australia, his performances were watched by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, ambassadors, representatives from artistic communities, and the media. Michał was interviewed by SBS Australia, in Sydney he met the legendary violinist Wanda Wiłkomirska who had a huge impact on his career. 
He has done many recordings for both radio and television. 

Making his debut in 2013 as concertmaster for the Belgian Symphonia Assai orchestra, he has also performed with the top Belgian chamber orchestras, including the Brussels Chamber Orchestra and the BruSolistes. 

Michał has participated in violin masterclasses in Australia, Poland and Switzerland, where he worked with world-famous musicians including Frank-Peter Zimmermann. Among these, he considers his cooperation with the legendary violinist Wanda Wiłkomirska to have been especially pivotal. 

Michał Buczkowski is a soloist who has performed all over the world, from Bach to contemporary music. Chamber music plays a special place in his career. Playing in duets with outstanding pianists and giving concerts in a duet with a classical guitar very close to his heart, he presents to the audience both well-known works and repertoire played very rarely or compositions performed for the first time.

Since 2021, Michał Buczkowski has been a member of the jury during the PolMusicA Music Competition in Australia. He is a member of numerous competitions worldwide, among others in Italy and Kenya. 

In 2023, with the American pianist Andrew Wright, he released his second album recorded for Austrian Gramophone and containing the world premiere of Marcel Dupré’s sonata for violin and piano. The first presentation of the album took place at the famous Baxter Hall in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2026 he performed in Nairobi on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of relations between the European Union and Kenya.

Michał Buczkowski also conducts extensive pedagogical activities. He gave masterclasses in Poland, Australia, at the universities of Stellenbosch and Cape Town, South Africa, and Kenyatta University and the Ghetto Classics in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya. 

He is the teacher of the outstandingly talented Stephen Otieno Omondi from the Ghetto Classics in Nairobi, winner of Kenya Music Festival 2025. The history of their meeting and cooperation has been described, among others, in The Washington Post.

Michał Buczkowski started a collaboration as a visiting violin professor at Kenyatta University in Nairobi and he is based in The Hague, Netherlands.
