Michael Foyle

Teaching Dates : August 16 ~ 20, 2027
Teaching Languages : English, German

Praised for playing of 'compelling conviction' (The Daily Telegraph), ‘sparkling detail, tonal beauty and incisive rhythmic clarity, balancing wit and poetry' (The Strad), Michael Foyle has performed as concerto soloist across Europe with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Polska Filharmonia Bałtycka, Wuppertal Sinfonieorchester, English Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players and Münchner Kammerphilharmonie.

Since winning the Netherlands Violin Competition 2016, he has appeared as soloist  in Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Buckingham Palace in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salle Cortot in Paris, Stephansdom in Vienna and Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory.

In 2024, his CD of Ravel's complete works for violin and piano with François-Xavier Poizat featured in Gramophone Magazine 'Recording of the Month' ('one of the most lucid yet intensely focused versions on record'), while in 2023 his recording of the complete Beethoven Sonatas with Maksim Štšura received five stars in BBC Music Magazine ('more Classically contained than Kremer and Argerich, better musically balanced than Menuhin and Kempff and less interventionist than Faust and Melnikov ... an engaging set of performances that casts fresh light on this much-recorded area of the repertoire').

Michael is also violinist of Trio Balthasar and London Conchord Ensemble and is frequently invited to leading festivals like Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, Delft, Pärnu, Verão Classico Portugal, Cervantino Mexico, New York Chamber Music etc. He has performed as Guest 1st Concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony, including at the BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall, and premiered solo works by over 30 living composers, several on live radio broadcast.

In 2016, he became the youngest Professor of Violin in the Royal Academy of Music's 200-year history. In 2021, he was made Professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. He recently joined the Artistic Board of the City Music Foundation and the jury of the Royal Over-Seas League Competition in London, both of which he is a former winner.

In 2022, Michael performed the 300th anniversary concert of the 'ex-Rode' Stradivarius displayed at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. He currently plays a Gennaro Gagliano violin from 1750.
