Katarzyna Dondalska

Katarzyna Dondalska is a Polish born coloratura soprano who began her musical career with the violin at the age of five. At the age of fifteen she began studying singing and completed her studies in both singing and violin with distinction, and a ’Meisterklasse’ diploma from the State Academy of Music in Würzburg, Germany. 

She was a finalist and holder of numerous prizes in several well-known international singing competitions such as the Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD, the Cardiff Singer of the World Festival, and the ’Sylvia Geszty’ Coloratura Singing Competition in Luxemburg. 

In 2011, the Danzig Music Academy awarded her a doctoral degree. 

Her most celebrated roles include Mozart’s Queen of the Night and Constanza, Richard Strauss’s Zerbinetta, Stravinsky and Braunfels’ Nachtigall, Offenbach’s Olympia, and Rossini’s Rosina, which she has successfully performed in opera houses across the globe including: the Grand Opera in Houston, the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff, the Korean National Opera in Seoul, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, and many others.

Her international concert tours have taken her to numerous famous concert halls including the Avery Fisher Concert Hall in New York, the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Washington John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Chicago Music Hall, the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto, the Philadelphia Verizon Hall – Kimmel Center, the Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego, the Paramount Theater in Seattle, the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver, the Royal Theater in Victoria, the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Montreal, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Winspear Centre in Edmonton, the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, the Fruchthalle Kaiserslautern, Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin, the Schloss Benrath in Düsseldorf, the Konzerthaus in Stockholm, the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, the Königin-Elisabeth-Saal in Brussels, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Philharmonie Berlin, the Carl-Orff Saal am Gasteig in Munich, and the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin.

She has worked with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln, the NDR Rundfunksinfonieorchester Hannover, the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg, the Bruckner-Symphonieorchester Linz, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has also worked with artists such as Vasily Petrenko, Dennis Russell Davies, Roberto, Carlo Rizzi, Edita Gruberowa, Wiesłąw Ochman, Francisco Araiza, Elmar Gunsch, Günter Wewel, Gunter Emmerlich, Barbara Bonney, Pete York, Paul Esswood, Lanze Ryan, Stefan Pop, Desiree Rancatore, Dmitry Korchak, Anna Maria Kaufmann, Katherine Merling, Hanno Müller-Brachmann, Anna Goryachova, Sebastian Reinthaller, Tom Allen, Markus Werba, Diana Damrau, Maciej Pikulski, Madeleine Wehle, Brigitte Mira, Ingrid Surgenor, Ingrid Kreuder, Stefan Johannes Walter, Daniele Abbado, Bogusław Kaczyński, Alexander Petrov, Lesley Garrett, Ute Lemper, Till Brönner, Klaus Hoffmann, Joja Wendt, Gregory Peck and Chris de Burgh. Katarzyna Dondalska’s first recordings of arias were by Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf and sacred songs by Otton Mieczysław Żukowski. She is well known publicly through her appearances on TV and radio broadcasts for ARD, BBC, RAI, RBB, SWR, BR, and WDR.

Katarzyna Dondalska was awarded the ’Warmia and Mazury icon 2018’ by Olsztyn’s President Piotr Grzymowicz and the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship’s Marshall Gustaw Marek Brzezina for her extraordinary artistic achievements nationally and abroad. 
The artist participated in the recording of 12 discs at the Acte Préalable publishing house (AP0288, AP0290, AP0317, AP0343, AP0348, AP0370, AP0410, AP0430, AP0500, AP0521, AP0550 and AP0601). 

In June 2015, Katarzyna Dondalska was awarded the postdoctoral degree from the Council of the Vocal and Acting Department of the Academy of Music in Łódź.

Since October 2015 she has been a professor of the Art Academy in Szczecin and in February 2021 she was awarded the title of Professor by the Polish President.
